Song of the Day: Ludovico Einaudi – Pathos (19-08-2026)

Sometimes I discover new music with a bit of delay. Of course I heard Einaudi’s new album The Summer Portraits from January 2025, even though it was 2-3 months later. I liked it then and I thought, well, it’s Einaudi as we know and love him. The other day I read a comment on Einaudi that a lot of musicians are jealous that he makes so much music out of so few real material. And I do agree, in general it’s not much that he takes, mostly one motif or maybe two to build that up into small pieces and sometimes epic ones. But still this is the power of Einaudi who manages to write emotional music that touches your heart without too much complexity, but it is still worked out, not a plain sketch.

In the last days I fell in love with his piece Pathos that is not merely a piano piece, it’s a force of nature that comes at you when you least expect it. Einaudi has worked with other musicians, often string artists like violin or cello. But this time it’s even more, when you listen: cello, violin, accordion, even percussions that accompany the center of the piano. It begins really petite, but then it swells to a storm of feelings, that’s why the title Pathos is more than fitting.

The recording on the album is great, but additionally I found a live recording that is worth listening and watching, because you can observe all the musicians that are involved. If you have the time listen to both – the recording is just for diving into sound which is essential with this piece. The live version is for learning the whole depth.

Two Works in Progress

From every now and then I remember all the amazing melodies some people wrote, so then it hits me and I have to remake them. In the last months I tend to take them to lower levels, trying to give them strength and depth, but still keep it smooth and let them shine without too much around it. They stand for themselves, so I try to point them out and add something from myself.

So here are two of my remakes. At first Distant Destiny by the never forgotten Reverse, who produced hammering tunes, and sometimes do nowadays. It’s not near finished, but I wanted to give you an update what I’m working on!

The second one is a remake of We Are Not Alone by the genius Nikolauss, who always shows a feeling for sequenced melodies. I already gave this track more work and it has come further than „Distant Destiny“, but it still is a way to go until finishing.

I hope you like the work so far and I hope I will finish these tunes in the next weeks for you (and me) enjoy in full length and quality! I will also ask the respective right owners if I was allowed to give them away for free. Stay tuned!

Polar Impact Trance Radio Session 034

As you might already have noticed, for the last several years I have played more and more Polar Impact records. The releases of this Chinese label have a banging uplifting style and that’s what I like about Trance! Sending shivers down your spine while levitating through the breakdown it lets you even more fly in the climax.

So the other day we decided I should mix a guest set for their podcast radio show and here we are: an hour of full front uplifting! Expect some tunes by X-Mayfly, Untranz, Ben Gold, Cold Blue and many more.

Track of the Day: Darren Porter – Spellbound (Ferry Tayle ‚The Wizard‘ Remix)

Today I want to recur to a – for me – absolutely heartbreaking tune. I do love the original mix of Darren Porter’s Spellbound, so do I love the Ferry Tayle remix. Both these mixes are part of the peak where Trance can lead – emotional, motivational, deep, still euphoric and banging.

The hearbreaking part is, that Ferry Tayle produced and played an early version of one of his sets. This differs from the released remix in minor (or major?) points. Whereas the released version had pluck synths all over and the beats where somewhat lighthearted, this unreleased one has a banging kickdrum and features something that changes the complete atmosphere in the break: the piano. The pluck synth has a nice sound and leads you into the silent part, while the piano makes everything sound so right, soothing, being warm and harmonic. This is something the pluck synth couldn’t do.

And to this day – mind you: being released in 2013! – I can’t understand why they changed it in the first place. And why the early version never got released afterwards. Either Ferry or Darren Porter or Monster Tunes must have rethought it and have the enlightenment that this tune is just so much better than the released mix. This is so different and such unbelievably better, I can’t get my head around it!

Having lost so many words about it, here is the unreleased remix:

Track of the Day: Farius & Solarstone – Barton Springs (24-05-2025)

For quite some time I haven’t posted a track of the day, but in the last days this one really has been following me: Farius is a quite new name in the industry, at least for me. He teamed up with the veteran and legend Solarstone to produce Barton Springs which has some progressive influences and still manages to have the fresh and emotional Trance vibe of Solarstone. I like the pretty basic stab synths combined with melodic vocal samples and both worked out with some nice delay that forge wide atmosphere. Also the filtered piano broadens the sound and the main synth evokes such a positive aura that you just have a feeling of the perfect day.

Markus DJ Studio filmed some beautiful shots of nature that accompany the atmospheric music in this video. Get your headphones and listen while enjoying wonderful perspectives of the world out there!

New „Arrivals“ on 7 February 2025

As you already know from last years dates my good friend Jaded and I have a new show on FriskyRadio. We have been collaborating from 2012 on and so we decided we should team up for an irregular show. And as you all know in the beginning you sometimes get carried away so we already mixed the third installment!

The first two shows have already aired in August and October and were two progressive mixes. Now we thought of something different – movie scores and game scores. Jaded is a big movie score enthusiast and played a great variety, I myself focussed on game scores that have always fascinated me. I especially picked some tunes from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the two Ori games or Arise – A Simple Story.

So tune into FriskyRadio CHILL on February 7th, 2025, at 12 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. CET and enjoy the chillout and orchestral sounds!

Activa – Remember (Addliss Chillout Remix)

A really long time ago Activa was one of the hot producers in Trance and today he is again, after a break of several years. Back in the days he had his breakthrough with Remember which has a simple, but very intense and hooking melody. I always envied him having written this melody and some time ago I had the idea, this should be available in a non-club atmosphere.

So I produced this Ambient remix just representing the melody, altering the piano line and adding some synths.

This is a non-profit upload, so if there’s any problem with it, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Track of the Day: Kalandra – Ghosts (30-11-2024)

There are lots of outstanding tunes released every year, every month, even everyday. But sometimes you encounter a song that you instantly know is something really special. I didn’t know Kalandra until yesterday and my friend Ingo Vogelmann recommended their song Ghosts to me. As I listened I immediately felt the special atmosphere.

The topic is very deep, revolving around lost family, the dark season of the year and the soothing effect of music during pensive hours. And while being very simple in the melody it is never boring. That’s why it is my track of the day today!

New Show: Jaded & Addliss – Arrivals

As you know me, I’m always looking for new horizons and good connections to work with. A long time friend and amazing DJ collaborator is Jaded from Hungary. We already worked out Chillout mixes like Inspire, Recreate and Enlighten more than 10 years ago. On Frisky you can still hear the following trilogy Sunrise – Gravity – Heaven with different styles, ranging from Tech House to Progressive Trance. In the following years we released sets in irregular time spans, also with Chillout and Dance music.

This time we worked out a show with progressive vibes from the scratch called Arrivals which already had its first episode in August! It features some of the best melodic progressive music of the last months from the likes of Cullera, Zgoot, Blood Groove & Kikis, Jody Wisternoff and many more. Following up tomorrow, October 4th 2024, you will hear the second episode with Yotto, Tinlicker, Jerome Isma-Ae, Mango & Cloudcage, Sasha Sound and others. Prepare for some groovy beats!

We will continue this series irregularly, but always with a great set-up of music!

So tune in to Frisky regular channel tomorrow, October 4th 2024, at 12 p.m. ESST / 6 p.m. CEST and enjoy our show!

Activa – Remember (Addliss Chillout Remix) [Sample]

Back in 2008 Activa was on his first high to present his iconic track Remember which maybe every Trance DJ played. It was one of the biggest tracks in the 2000s for me and still is one of my favourites of all time. Just sitting at home diseased I remembered the tune and had to try out the melody. So I thought of a Chillout remake which would suit the melody really well!

Not wasting any time I made it and, of course, there’s still a lot to finish like EQing, effects, maybe some percussions (?), I don’t know yet. But you can hear a short sneak preview on my Soundcloud:

If you like it, tell me! I will do my best to finish it in the near future!
